Heart of the action, but no heart.
HI Stadsdoelen is an affordable, no frills Hostel located in the heart of the Red Light District. One nice thing I noticed about this hostel would be that the lockers are quite large and sturdy - security is top-notch. Although this hostel lacks atmosphere and character, (not to mention you're not supposed to take cannabis in to the place but don't worry nobody really cares) its location makes up for that. All the delights of Amsterdam, sans the art galleries, are located within a mile. Among the attractions would be Dam square, Anne Frank Huis, Centraal Station not to mention the finest coffee shops in Amsterdam. In short, if you're looking to make friends, skip this hostel, but if you just want a cheap place to stay that's close to the action, this is the place.
