Coach
When you think of backpacking around Europe the first thing to come to mind is buying a rail pass and setting off. Backpacking by bus doesn't seem to have the same romantic appeal as by train, but it is a cheap option to consider if you have the extra time and don't mind bus travel.

Eurolines operate a point-to-point coach service to over 500 destinations across Europe from Morrocco to Moscow. Eurolines also offer two passes, both for unlimited travel. One is for 15 days and another for 30. Travel on the pass is unfortunately restricted to 40 major cities across Europe but what it lacks in flexibility it makes up for in affordability.

Pros

Cons

Cheaper than a rail pass.

Drop offs are usually made right in the city centre.

Sea crossings are included in the price of the ticket.

Modern, non-smoking coaches with washroom facilities.

Passengers will be a mix of travellers as well as locals.

Travel time will be longer than on trains and depend on traffic.

Unable to get up and walk around making longer journeys potentially uncomfortable.

With only 40 major destinations included on the pass, the service is limited.
