Harvest Work
If you're a glutton for punishment and want to get some really out of the way places then have a go at some harvest work. Most people will only do this type of work if they can't find anything else as it can really be backbreaking. Though the thought of picking grapes in France might sound romantic, the reality is a bit harsh and can involve long days, lots of lifting and working in harsh weather.

If you know what you're getting yourself into though, you might enjoy the atmosphere. Many farms have on site accommodation in tents or caravans and the atmosphere on a farm full of other young students and travellers can be really good. It's a good way to get outdoors, get fit, make some new friends, see the countryside and make a bit of cash at the same time!

If you fancy meeting some locals for short stints on farms while saving some money in the process then you might want to become a WWOOFer. WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) is an organisation that pairs of farmers with volunteers. The farm gets cheap help for 4-6 hours a day and you get a bed, meals, and might even learn some new skills! You have to buy a membership for each country and with that you get a book with contact details and descriptions of the farms.
