Ski Resorts
During the winter there's loads of work going on the ski slopes of Europe from Andorra to Austria. Jobs can be anything including
receptionists, night porters, bar and restaurant staff, bellboys (all of which usually require excellent language skills) and chambermaids,
maintenance staff, and dishwashers (which require basic language skills).
There are also plenty of jobs to be had as chalet hosts. This
usually involves running a chalet with one or two others, one of you cooking and the others cleaning, picking up the guests, serving food
and just making sure the guests have a great time. As most guests tend to be from England, language skills aren't necessary.
The whole point of working on a ski hill in the winter is to ski or snowboard and most jobs provide plenty of time to do just that! Most of the chalet
host jobs seem to require work in the early mornings then time off to ski in the early afternoon before returning to work in the late evening. Nights
are usually spent partying pretty hard and mornings spent severely hungover. Most chalet hosts/cooks get one day off per week and have one day
where they work very long hours.
While there's probably some under the table work in pubs, all ski recruitment agencies I've encountered require potential employees to have a full
passport from any EU country. This means that working holiday visas or ancestry visas for the UK are not good enough. You'll also need a permanent
National Insurance number for the UK. Hiring can be done as early as July right up to when the season starts in December and employees are expected to
commit to an entire season ending in April and face penalties if they leave earlier. A good website to start your job search is Natives.co.uk
