Nice place to live, but wouldn't want to work here.
I worked at this hostel and stayed for about ten days before quitting. The hostel is in a small
Colonial-style house down a side street not too far from Caxton Street. It's clean, very quiet,
has a really nice pool and has a big TV. The social life of the hostel is killed by the TV because
of it's placement in the common area. They'll do pick-ups from the transit centre in a dodgy van,
but they won't drop you off as there's usually only one staff member working at a time. Staff are
usually fellow backpackers, and sometimes the owner. I found the owner to be greedy and a bit scary,
but if you don't have to work for her, she's pleasant enough. She'll book people into doubles in her
home when she's away which is good if you're stuck for a place to stay and want privacy, but bad if
you actually want to socialize with other travellers. Security is fine with keys to the house and
to each room. There's also a main safe and really small coin-operated lockers in each room. The kitchen
is well-equipped, but far too small. Be warned that you need a creditcard to book by phone, and if you
don't show up, she WILL charge you... even if she fills the bed with another person. Greedy indeedy.
