Most farmers will want you to have a working visa, but don't really ask to see it. All they usually care about is whether you have a tax file number or not. Many people either make up fake ones, use someone elses (while using their name as well), or just check off the box on the tax form that says that they're waiting for it in the mail. If you're waiting on a tax number or using a made up one, you'll usually have around a month before they start taxing you at the higher rate, so if you're only picking for a month, you can get away with it without losing most of your wages to tax. Many farmers will also employ people under the table and pay cash in hand.
